Hip, knee and shoulder disorders are among the most common musculoskeletal conditions in Germany. When symptoms become chronic and can no longer be successfully managed with conservative treatment, joint replacement surgery may offer an effective solution. Today, hip and knee replacement procedures are among the most frequently performed surgical interventions in Germany. Each year, around 400,000 damaged joints are replaced with artificial implants, helping patients regain mobility, achieve lasting pain relief and improve their overall quality of life.
"By using well-established implants through a minimally invasive approach to the hip joint, we are able to provide the highest level of patient safety," explains Dr. med. Thomas Quandel, Chief Physician. "Joint replacement enables many patients to return to an active, pain-free life and resume their professional activities. Recreational sports such as walking, swimming and cycling are generally possible again after recovery," he adds.
Our Certified Maximum Care Joint Replacement Center is audited by ClarCert, Germany's leading certification body for healthcare quality. The rigorous certification process ensures compliance with the highest standards of quality, safety and patient care.
For our patients, this certification provides the assurance that they are being treated at a specialized center of excellence for hip and knee replacement surgery. Standardized treatment pathways, highly experienced surgeons and structured postoperative care ensure consistently high-quality outcomes throughout every stage of treatment.
The Joint Replacement Center at Marienhospital Aachen offers patients many additional advantages. From the very first consultation in our joint replacement clinic, every step of the treatment process follows a clearly structured and coordinated pathway. Using comprehensive patient questionnaires, we identify each patient's individual needs and tailor treatment accordingly.

Hip Replacement
Hip pain can occur at any age but is particularly common among older adults. In most cases, it is caused by wear and tear of the hip joint cartilage (osteoarthritis). However, a variety of other conditions may also lead to hip pain.
Hip pain may develop suddenly (acute) or gradually over time (chronic). The most common causes of acute hip pain include a fracture of the femoral neck (hip fracture), bursitis, traumatic dislocation of the hip joint and bacterial infection of the hip joint.
Our certified department specializes in primary and revision hip replacement surgery. With extensive experience and expertise in hip arthroplasty, we provide state-of-the-art treatment tailored to each patient's individual needs.
A hip replacement can effectively relieve pain, restore joint function and significantly improve quality of life. We carefully select the most appropriate implant for every patient to achieve the best possible long-term outcome.
